Privacy policy
Last updated · July 16, 2026
The short version: Downfield Data collects almost nothing about you. There are no accounts, no profiles, and we never sell personal data. Here's the whole picture, in plain language.
What we collect
Your email, if you subscribe to the newsletter. That's the one piece of personal information you can hand us, and it's always your choice. The address is stored with our newsletter provider and used for exactly one thing: sending you the weekly email. Every issue carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list.
Standard server logs. Our host (Vercel) processes routine request data like IP address and browser type to serve pages and protect the site from abuse. That's baseline plumbing for any website, and we don't use it to identify you.
What stays on your device
The site remembers one preference in your browser's local storage: whether you flipped an article into Reading Mode. That setting lives on your device, never leaves it, and clearing your browser data wipes it.
What we don't do
- No selling, renting, or trading of personal data. Ever.
- No user accounts, passwords, or payment information.
- No third-party ad trackers or analytics scripts on the site today. If we ever add a privacy-respecting analytics tool, this page will say so first.
Third parties we rely on
The site runs on Vercel (hosting), our editorial content lives in a CMS, and newsletter emails go through a newsletter provider. Each handles data under its own privacy policy, and we only share what's needed to run the thing you asked for: your email goes to the newsletter provider and nowhere else.
Questions
